Hospital Opening and Community Day EventSeptember 29, 2012
This public event celebrated the opening of the new $350 million hospital in Montgomery County, PA.
Challenge: Create a community centric, fun family day of events, which highlight the hospital, its services and medical staff. Logistical challenges included, limiting access to the hospital, limited parking on grounds and short set up and strike time.
Solution: The community was welcomed to the new medical center as partners and VIPs. Tour guides entertained guests as they were shuttled to the site in luxury coaches. Self-guided tours included special feature areas highlighted by demonstrations or a personalized mobile phone tour. Subject area experts offered insider information and answered questions along the tour route. Outside the medical center, the grounds came alive with activity. The main tent featured customized décor, with women’s and men’s health pavilions, healthy cooking demos, a “meet the doc” area, various demos by partner health organizations and other activities. Stages included community and family performing groups. A special Einstein pavilion highlighted the contributions of Albert Einstein with math and science demonstrations and guests got to play games in the “Get Moving Midway”.
Olympic Gold Medalist and local resident, Brendan Hansen, greeted guests, posed for photos and signed autographs.
In addition, each evening of opening week a spectacular building lighting created a community light show using the new hospital as the canvas.
Over 12,000 people attended Community Day, well over the projected estimates.
