Expanded Pennsylvania Convention Center Opens in Philadelphia

Under construction since 2008, the $787 million annex to the Pennsylvania Convention Center in downtown Philadelphia is finally complete, the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA) announced this week.

Officially opened during a March 4 ribbon-cutting ceremony, the expansion — which is one of the largest public works projects ever undertaken by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania — increases the facility’s footprint by 62 percent. It includes 935,000 square feet of brand-new usable space, including more than 528,000 square feet of new contiguous exhibit space, 23 new meeting rooms, three new exhibit halls and a new 56,000-square-foot ballroom, all of which give the facility the rare ability to simultaneously host two citywide conventions under one roof.
